MEET SHEENA

Sheena Vaught is an independent filmmaker, writer, director, and producer based in Brunswick County, North Carolina (Shallotte/Southport area). With over 15 years in the industry, she is the founder and owner of Tower 5 Media and A R I M U S E Productions LLC, where she creates faith-inspired, family-friendly content emphasizing Christian values, redemption, justice, character building, and heartfelt storytelling.

Vaught’s career began with hands-on roles in independent projects, including early work as a script supervisor on films like Adrenaline (starring John Schneider) and directing her first documentary, God in My Fingers (2012), about Wilmington artist Ivey Hayes. She has since worn multiple hats across dozens of shorts, features, and web series—often serving as writer, director, producer, cinematographer, editor, and more—demonstrating her versatility on independent budgets.

As a writer, Vaught crafts emotionally resonant scripts rooted in biblical themes and personal growth. Her credits include the feature The Reason (2022), shorts such as My Last Goodbye (2023), Convicted (2018), and Reception Impossible (2015), and series like Coffee with the Girls (creator, 2019–2022) and M A N C A V E (2021). She is currently developing ambitious projects such as the TV series The Reaper (exploring biblical concepts like the blood avenger) and the Scarlet Reign trilogy (featuring a faith-driven female superhero with healing powers who balances saving lives with Christian principles).

In her role as director, Vaught brings intimate character-driven visuals and thematic depth to the screen. Her director’s reel highlights her skill in capturing spiritual and relational journeys, with work screening at regional festivals and events. She has also contributed to community filmmaking through teaching workshops in Brunswick County and serving as executive director and chairperson of the CineBay Film Festival.

As a producer (including executive producer credits), Vaught oversees projects from development to completion, managing creative vision, logistics, and collaboration. Recent and ongoing work includes executive producing My Last Goodbye, The Reason, The Scavengers, and Scarlet Reign (development), where she also handles cinematography.

Recognized locally as a rising talent (e.g., Future 10 feature in 2022), Vaught remains committed to uplifting faith-centered narratives and mentoring emerging creators. Her work blends cinematic polish with inspirational messaging, making her a driving force in North Carolina’s independent film scene.

Sheena's Filmmaking Journey

2009-2011

SHEENA DIRECTS & EDITS HER FIRST VIDEO...

Sheena directed and edited her first music video, Tobacco is a No No, in collaboration with hip-hop artist Robert 'Rob-lo' Lawson for his senior high school project.  Sheena attended the University of North Carolina Wilmington as a Film Studies Major.  She wrote and produced a short experimental film Water (2010), produced a short World War II documentary Over the Horizon (2010) and her directorial documentary debut Colestine (2011).

2012-2015

GOD IN MY FINGERS, SCRIPT SUPERVISING, & MORE...

After Sheena graduated with her BA she began filming a documentary on the prolific North Carolina Artist, Ivey Hayes.  The spring/summer of 2012 Sheena moved to Los Angeles, CA to pursue an internship.  Upon returning to North Carolina, in 2012, Sheena began doing background acting and then enrolled to Cape Fear Community College with the hopes of acquiring work on film sets.  From working on a student short film as a script supervisor, Sheena became a mentee of Cornelia 'Nini' Rogan, a veteran script supervisor in the film industry.  Sheena went on to work on many film projects as an extra, script supervisor, production coordinator and production assistant.

2016-PRESENT

MAKING HER OWN CONTENT...

Sheena began working in the insurance industry in February 2015, she soon began focus working on producing her own content.  Her first completed project was The Fervent, 2016.  Next Sheena produced Convicted, 2018.  In 2019 Sheena went on to create a table talk web series, Coffee with the Girls.  Under Tower 5 Media, Sheena began to partner with the University of North Carolina Wilmington Film Studies department to bring on interns to mentor for over 6 semesters.  Sheena is currently the chair of Cinebay Film Festival and has hosted the first filmmaking workshop for teens ages 14-18 where they learned the operations of a Hollywood Film Set and were able to work on Tower 5 Media's current film My Last Goodbye, 2023.
